The lakes located in the southern province are completely or partially covered with invasive plants and the lakes and irrigation sources are on the verge of destruction. This weed harvester, which is a modern machine specialized for removing invasive aquatic plants that have grown in so many lakes, has the ability to move on water and remove aquatic plants very efficiently. Accordingly, the Southern Province Irrigation Department purchased this machine as the most expensive machine in the Southern Province at the cost of 85 million rupees under the 2021 development plan. As this machine can produce eco-friendly high-quality compost fertilizer by using the invasive aquatic plants that are removed, it will be more effective to purchase this type of machine in the southern province on the basis of discouraging the use of chemical fertilizers and referring to the use of organic fertilizers. According to this, aquatic plants including mosses and salvinia plants are being removed in the vicinity of Maramba Lake in Akurassa Divisional Secretariat of Matara District.
