The principal provincial government institution regulating and managing water resources in the Southern Province since 1989.
The Southern Province Department of Irrigation (SPID) was established in 1989 with the formation of the Southern Provincial Council. The roles and responsibilities previously carried out by the Central Department of Irrigation were transferred to the new Provincial Department of Irrigation.
In accordance with the 13th Amendment, all irrigation projects that are not inter-provincial must remain under the Provincial Department. We are committed to sustainable water management and agricultural development.
